Terms of Service

Effective October 6, 2026

These terms are an agreement between you and Lil Lanterns LLC, a New York company. By using Lil Lanterns or subscribing, you agree to them. Our Privacy Policy explains how we handle information.

Who can use Lil Lanterns

You must be 18 or older and in the United States. Lil Lanterns is a tool for parents and caregivers to create stories they share with children. Children shouldn't use it on their own.

What Lil Lanterns is, and isn't

  • Stories are written by AI from the details you provide. AI can make mistakes, so please read each story before sharing it with your child.
  • Lil Lanterns is for everyday conversations and big feelings. It isn't therapy, medical advice or professional guidance. If you're worried about your child's health or safety, please contact a qualified professional.
  • We may decline to create a story that isn't safe or appropriate for children.

Subscriptions and billing

  • Free story: without a subscription, you can create one free story and one new version of it.
  • Family plan: $8.99 per month.
  • Founding family offer (First Sparks): $5.99 per month for your first 3 months, then $8.99 per month.
  • Your subscription renews automatically each month, and you're charged at the start of each billing period until you cancel.
  • The price, billing frequency and how to cancel are shown before you pay, and in your receipt.
  • If our price changes, we'll email you before the new price applies, and you can cancel before it does.

Cancelling and refunds

  • Cancel anytime, online, through the link in your Stripe receipt, or by emailing hello@lillanterns.com.
  • When you cancel, your subscription stays active until the end of the period you've paid for, and you won't be charged again.
  • If Lil Lanterns isn't right for you, cancel within 30 days of your first payment and we'll refund it in full. Just email us.

Your stories, and what we own

You keep all rights to the details you enter. The stories you create are yours to read, print, keep and share with family and friends. We don't claim ownership of them, and we give you any rights we have in them. (US law may not give anyone copyright in AI-written text.) You let us use your details only to write your story, as our Privacy Policy explains.

Lil Lanterns LLC owns the Lil Lanterns website, name, brand and technology. Lil Lanterns is for personal, family use, so please don't use it to mass-produce stories for sale or to copy our service.

Your responsibilities

  • By entering details about a child, you confirm you're their parent or legal guardian, or have their parent's or guardian's permission.
  • Share only the details a story needs. Don't enter last names, schools, addresses or other people's private information.
  • Don't try to make Lil Lanterns produce harmful or inappropriate content, get around our safety protections, or interfere with how it works.

Ending access

You can stop using Lil Lanterns or cancel anytime. We may suspend or end your access, including cancelling your subscription, if you break these terms, try to get around our safety protections, or use Lil Lanterns in a way that could harm others. If we end it for one of these reasons, we may do so without a refund. If we end your access for any other reason, we'll refund the unused part of your subscription.

Changes to Lil Lanterns

We're a young company and Lil Lanterns will keep changing. We may add, change or remove features. If we make important changes to these terms, we'll update this page and email subscribers.

Limits on our responsibility

In plain words: please read every story before you share it. You know your child best.

If something goes wrong

Please email hello@lillanterns.com first. Most problems can be fixed with a conversation, and you agree to give us 30 days to try to resolve a dispute informally before making a formal claim.

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of New York. Any formal claim must be brought in the state or federal courts in New York County, New York, except that either of us may bring an eligible claim in small claims court.

You and Lil Lanterns LLC agree to bring any claims against each other only on an individual basis, and not as a plaintiff or class member in any class or representative action.

If any part of these terms can't be enforced, the rest still applies.
